Kyaukme is a town in northern Shan State of Burma and situated on the Mandalay-Muse Road which is part of the Asian Highway No 14. This small trading town is very peaceful and an ideal choice for anyone for experiencing the life of the Shan with unique features of culture and customs.

About the history of Kyaukme, this town was terribly destroyed during the Second World War by the USAAF Tenth Air Force before was captured oin 1945 by the British until the Independence Day of Myanmar.

Getting here is very easy, you can take the Mandalay - Lashio train and it will stop at Kyaukme. More, if you have a trainsick, you can take a bus from Mandalay.

Kyaukme is the ideal place for trekking, especially the surrounding Palaung villages in the hills. Besides, you can hire a motorbike and travel around the villages though it is quite small-scale.

The major ethnic minorities here is Chinese and Shan so Kyaukme is the great place for you to experience the life of Both the Chinese and the Shan. You can visit their bamboo paper workshop and English School which

is looking for foreigners to help with lessons. The local market is also a very interesting place with traditional clothing and souvenirs and the local vendors.

About the eating place and accommodation.Thiripyitsayn Food and Drink is the first name. They have great Shan Noodles and Avocado juice with only 500 kyat of each. A Yone Oo Guest House is the only place in town

for foregners with cleaned room and well priced.
